SPOKANE, Wash – Whitworth University officials say they have reached a “final resolution” in a cybersecurity breach.
The university’s information system was hacked in late July. A message to the Whitworth community said it was possible that the personal information of students, alumni, employers or sponsors had been compromised. If an investigation determines that is the case, those affected will be notified.
The university’s website has been down for weeks. During that time, tThe IT department worked with outside forensic experts to determine what specific information might have been accessed.
“Know that your security and the protection of your personal information are of paramount importance to us,” the university said.
Whitworth officials did not say how they had come to resolve the issue but said they were adding new layers of system protection to prevent this from happening in the future.
