Canon Rumor Factory is working overtime. Just a week after receiving the latest details about the upcoming Canon R50 (opens in a new tab) and the much-anticipated RF-S 22mm F2 STM lens (opens in a new tab)we’re back with more details on two new cameras coming from Canon in 2023.
According to Canon rumors (opens in a new tab), the two new cameras will be the Canon EOS R5S and the Canon EOS R7C. Although no specific date has been set, with the CP+ trade show taking place in February 2023, we can see a huge show from Canon as the company really tries to push and fill the space. hole in its mirrorless product line.
We’ve been hearing rumors about the Canon R7C for quite some time now. While nothing is certain yet, according to Canon Rumors, the new camera is expected to record 7K footage at 60P using Cinema RAW Light and will feature the same codec options as Canon’s newly launched R5C (opens in a new tab).
The main difference between the R7C, R5C and other cameras in the EOS Cinema series is the body size and sensor selection. An R7C is expected to use the same or very similar body as this year’s Canon R7 (opens in a new tab)uses an APS-C sensor size instead of full frame (R5C) or Super 35 (EOS Cinema) found in other cameras in Canon’s range.
So we’re expecting a compact camera, with the Canon R7 currently slightly smaller than the R5C and considerably smaller than the EOS Cinema camera. An R7C would probably be Canon’s smallest option for video at this level. If history is any precedent it should be priced around the same as the current R7, as the Canon R5C was released for the same price as the base R5.
The Canon R5S is more of a mystery when there’s no concrete proof of its existence, but that hasn’t stopped persistent rumors from spreading. A popular rumor is that a brand new 100MP sensor is coming to the R5 body for extremely detailed landscape and studio photography. We’ve seen this before in the EOS 5D range, with the Canon 5DS (opens in a new tab)/R was the 50MP version of the EOS 5D available at the time.
Another angle suggests that this could be a dedicated sport version of the existing R5 with amazing shutter speeds or frame rates. Although there are more actual rumors about Canon EOS R1 (opens in a new tab) camera, it would be much easier to fit this sporty moniker based on previous Canon DSLR naming patterns. The current R5 is no slouch, however, we’ve seen Sony, Olympus, and Fujifilm all really step up their game in the high-speed photography arena, so this should be Canon’s way of keeping its footing. yourself at the door without launching a whole new level of camera.
