With the release of the iPhone 14 (hopefully) less than six months away, rumors and leaks are appearing dense and fast. From a new design to a big battery, we’ve heard all manner of tidbits – but this is possibly the most divisive.
It’s no surprise that the rumored iPhone 14 Pro will use the all-new A16 Bionic chip. But unlike previous generations, it looks like this time the Pro model won’t share the love of the standard iPhone. (You don’t have to wait? Check out the best iPhone 13 Pro deals available right now.)
As spotted by MacRumors, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has just stated that the A16 chip will only be limited to the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, with the regular 14 keeping the same A15 Bionic chip as the iPhone 13 series. last year.
In previous years, the standard and ‘Pro’ models were distinguished by aspects such as design and camera technology, but not by the chip itself. If this is true, the gap between the two iPhone versions could be much wider.
Only two Pro models will upgrade to the A16 processor, while the 14 & 14 Max will remain A15. All four new models will likely come with 6GB of RAM, with the difference being LPDDR 5 (14 Pro & 14 Pro Max) versus LPDDR 4X (14 & 14 Max). https://t.co/tHcszIz6gXMarch 13, 2022
So is this good news or bad news? It may depend on whether you prefer the iPhone Pro or the standard iPhone. For Pro users, knowing you’ve got the best can help justify splurging on extra cash – and allow you to really shrug off mortals with just an iPhone 14.
On the other hand, if you don’t want to spend up to four figures on your smartphone, it can be a bit disappointing to hear that you’re getting the same chip as last year, especially when years ago, the base model was given the same chip as the Pros. If anything, it’s bound to make choosing a model more difficult in 2022 – and perhaps motivating many users, especially advertisers who need all the strength they can, to steer to Pro.
We’ll add this to the pile of tantalizing iPhone 14 rumors we’ve been hearing for the past few months. From an all-new design to every first periscope lens in an iPhone, it seems like a worthy upgrade for the iPhone 13.
