Canon launches PowerShot SX70 HS with 65x zoom, 4K video

Canon has announced a new bridge camera, introducing the PowerShot SX70 HS, which boasts 65x optical fixed-lens zoom, 4K UHD video and a £519.99 price tag.

Inside the DSLR-style body of the Canon PowerShot SX70 HS is a 20.3-megapixel 1/2.3-type CMOS sensor that provides a 25% increase in resolution compared to the 16.1MP SX60 HS.

Along with the new sensor is Canon’s DIGIC 8 processor, which helps the camera achieve a continuous shooting speed of 10fps.

With 65x optical zoom, the Canon PowerShot SX70 HS delivers a 21-1365mm equivalent focal length. It also introduces a 0cm macro mode that Canon says allows users to focus on ‘objects that are almost touching the lens.’

Zoom Frame Assist Lock, another new feature, helps users keep their framing and composition consistent when shooting at that extreme telephoto end of the focal range.

Vloggers should love the PowerShot SX70 HS for its fully articulating LCD screen, as well as its ability to record 4K UHD video, as well as 4K frame rate capture and 4K time-lapse video recording.

Other features include Remote Live View, which allows you to shoot with the PowerShot SX70 HS via your smartphone, as well as synchronize images and videos with your computer or smart device via via Auto Image Sync Mode and via the Canon Camera Connect app.

Canon says the PowerShot SX70 HS autofocus system is quick to respond in low light and can autofocus continuously when shooting at 5.7 fps.

Canon PowerShot SX70 HS Price and Release Date

The Canon PowerShot SX70 HS price tag will be £519.99 / €599.99, with a release date set for November 2018.
